Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Aita Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 11/01/2015) was an Swedish actress who was well-known for her beauty and striking figure. Her role as Sylvia in Federico Federlini's film La Dolce Vita (1960), made her well-known. Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29 September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model during her teens. Ekberg was a participant in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 at her mother's urging. She won the Miss Sweden contest. Despite speaking little English she travelled to America to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an unofficial pageant at the time. The pageant officially became officially recognized in 1952. Ekberg was not the winner of the Miss Universe pageant. However she was among six Finalists. Universal Studios offered her an exclusive starlet contract. As a starlet at Universal, she received lessons in drama, elocution, horses, dancing and fencing. The film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as a woman in Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
