Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent her entire childhood living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago until she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, along with a brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her family as well as on her own. Because her parents were teachers, they were able to enjoy every summer with each other, traveling and camping all across the United States. In actuality, they've been camping in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was sent to Rwanda to assist in relief efforts after the 1994 war. Amy demonstrated artistic talent early through acting in school productions, and taking part in writing competitions. She was a talented athlete in high school who participated in the very first 3200-meter relay in Illinois girls track. After college, she suffered an injury, she was back in the theater and performed in a variety on stage beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" as well as directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where she graduated cum laude with having a B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago shortly after and then studied Improv at the Improv Olympic, and performed in the theater at The Actor's Center. Soon after graduating she was offered a permanent for the no-longer-running soap opera Another World (1964). She was nominated in the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series" category for Daytime Emmy Award. Her most memorable roles were those of strong women, such as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and bassist for Les Savy Fav. She also runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and serves as a part-owner. Amy continues to pursue her passions on film and writing.
